We present player from Jamaica, Mr. Rohan Andre Thomas.
He was born November 15, 1988 in Jamaica in a place called Spanish Town, the parish of St. Catherine. He is 26 years old.
He still lives in Spanish Town with his family Mother, Sonia Harrison and father, Lebert Thomas and two siblings, Kemar and Lotoya.
He works as a Security Officer. He is not married and has no kids. He was first introduce to the game of draught at the age of 16 while coming from school, he saw men playing on the roadside and got interested. He began frequenting the corner and thereby develope a love for the game.
He began training with various players namely Wayne Reid aka “Shines”. who is Jamaica’s number one player. also Jason Wisdom aka “Schoolboy”, who was then recognized as Jamaica’s number two.
He eventually started winning games easily against Mr. Wisdom and at a tournament held about four months ago, he managed to win an exciting series against the great Shines and won the tournament overall. He is presently ranked at number 2 but is currently being viewed as the next top player in Jamaica.
He was also introduced to playing draught online. However at the onset there were challenges to playing online as the game being played was known as poolcheckers which was a different variation as to the game played in Jamaica.
Firstly, the board is played with the long checker line starting on the left side (in Jamaica it is on the right). also was introduced to the “flying king” and the “most take rule”.
However being the versatile player that he is, he has studied games of Iser Kuperman, Sokov, Kaplan and Zirik to name a few, and is very much interested to come to Russia to match wits with the best players in the world.
He is a deep reader and has the ability to adjust his game. Only weakness is maybe not being so verse in the Russian version.
