On behalf of the Committee on Physical Culture and Sports of St. Petersburg I welcome you in the northern capital of Russia.
Draughts have always been popular in Russia and especially in St. Petersburg. The founder of our city Peter loved this game. Over the years, Leningrad – St. Petersburg draughts players have won world, Europe, the Soviet Union and Russia titles. Tournaments of the highest international level are regularly helds in the city on the Neva. However, European Draughts championship in St. Petersburg will be the first time.
I am sure that the competition will be held in a fair and uncompromising struggle, and the holders of the highest title will be, indeed, the strongest wizard draughts art.
I wish players who fights for the European crown interesting draughts creative discoveries, commitment to achieving the goal, great victories and memorable stay on the banks of the Neva!

I welcome you in St. Petersburg – recognized center of draughts movement in Russia and in the world!
Draughts movement of Russia began in St. Petersburg. There was published the first book on the draughts. St. Petersburg and Leningrad draughts players have added many glorious pages in the history of draughts sport.
St. Petersburg has a lot of experience of the draughts tournaments on the highest level, but European Draughts-64 Championship among men and women will be held for the first time.
I am sure that the European Championships 2014 will be held in an exciting and uncompromising struggle and the best players will win!
I hope that all the participants and guests of the championship will have a memorable stay in our city – one of the most beautiful cities in the world!
